Character Artist

Job Description

We are looking for a Character Artist to help us build the home of Esports!

We'd love to find someone who is an experienced Character Artist in games, with a balance of hard surface, organic modelling, and texturing skills and an eye for both aesthetics and technical optimization.

You would be involved the creation of a wide variety of characters, cosmetics and items that are either original or based upon some of the biggest brands in esports, gaming and entertainment.

We are a growing studio, so this requires plenty of hands-on work creating, iterating, and tuning systems/mechanics. It would be great if you're comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment where goals and constraints are mostly team driven and where change, big and small, is a critical part of the process.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Art & Design teams to both design and development of a diverse range of player avatar & avatar cosmetic designs
Using Blender, ZBrush, and Substance painter create high fidelity avatar models, with an emphasis on unique player expression in VR
Further support 3D asset creation with items, equipment, and set pieces for new gameplay experiences
Use your strong sense of human/creature anatomy to push character quality to its fullest potential
Taking ownership of larger art tasks and seeing them through to completion

Ideal experience:

3+ years of experience as a Character Artist in game development
Experience creating high quality, stylised 3D character art
Superb 3D modelling and texturing skills with both organics & hard-surface
Understanding of character modelling, rigging and skinning in preparation for animation
Portfolio that demonstrates a breadth of both technical and artistic execution of Character Art

It would be extra awesome if you have:

Passion for Esports, VR or live events
Extensive experience in developing character models and textures in a variety of styles
Experience using the Unreal Engine would be an advantage, but not a necessity
Experienced working with animation blueprints, rigging, control rigs and animation retargeting
Experience with Version Control such as Perforce, etc

As big fans of esports, we began to envision virtual stadiums and a 3D viewing experience a long time ago! With the Virtex Stadium application launching on PC and VR in 2021, we want to make that dream a reality by allowing esports fans to view gameplay live in 3D, in the centre of a virtual stadium. Partnering with the wider esports ecosystem (incl. publishers, leagues, teams), we are working towards building the virtual home of esports.
